Wintry Mix Ahead – Bitter Cold Weekend – Thursday Video

Good Morning!  Old Man Winter is knocking on the door.  As very cold air plunges south, a northern Gulf of Mexico storm system takes center stage.  Some will get snow, some will get a wintry mix and for some just rain.  On this video I’ll break down the details of who gets what and when.  Plus, wait till you see the temperatures & the wind chill.  Good information about Alabama’s fast approaching winter weather event. Winter Storm watch has been extended southward to Elmore, Autauga, Dallas and Tallapoosa county. More..throughout the day.

IMPORTANT UPDATE;  Since the video was published, the Winter Storm Watch has been extended southward and now includes Dallas, Autauga, Elmore and Tallapoosa counties.

Classic set-up with Low pressure tracking over the northern Gulf, with very cold air in place across Alabama.

Multiple models continue to differ on the details of this scenario, which is not surprising in such a complex situation. Timing and the track of the Gulf Low are the key factors.  Here’s just two of the global models:  The GFS which is bullish on accumulations and the Euro which is not.

Official forecast shows the best chance of accumulation along and north of a line from Alex City, to Clanton, to Demopolis.

Besides the Wintry Precipitation, the other big story is the cold.  Look at the Sunday morning wind chill values!

Bitter cold this weekend, but check out the 10 day Euro model temps.  Big recovery next week!

Stay up with the latest!  The forecast could change.  I’ll have an updated post later today and another video for your Friday morning at 5.  Stay up to date with the latest information.  Download the APP if you haven’t already. Have a great day!  –Rich
