The center of Cindy is hundreds of miles from Alabama, and yet we are seeing a significant effect here. Flooding rainfall in some cases, and a significant amount of rain still to fall. Serious flooding is a possibility, especially in southwest and coastal Alabama. Spots near the Florida/Alabama line on the coast have already had 8.5” and wait till you see how much more rain could fall. (map below). PLUS, the threat of spin up tornadoes will be increasing across coastal and southwest Alabama especially by this evening & tonight, and tomorrow, across much of west Alabama, a few additional spin up tornadoes are possible.
Already Cindy has turned deadly. Tragically a 10 year old boy from Missouri was killed near Fort Morgan. A huge wave crashed into an enormous beach log, causing it to barrel towards the boy. The boy was struck in the head, resulting in severe facial injuries. We’re told the boy’s skull was crushed by the log.
Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Cindy is still over water in the northwest Gulf, heading toward the upper Texas/Louisiana coastline by late tonight. All the heavy rain & squally weather is mainly east and northeast of the center.
At 4:PM, from the National Hurricane Center, Cindy is located 125 miles SE of Galveston, moving NW at 9. Winds have come down a tad now to 50 MPH. Here’s the new forecast ‘cone’.

A tornado watch continues along the Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and NW Florida coast line until 7PM. But even when this watch expires, it’s likely a replacement watch will be issued. NUMEROUS tornado warnings this afternoon from coastal Miss. through coastal AL and into the NW Florida panhandle. Little brief spin ups. More warnings this evening and tonight.
Rainfall amounts have already been extremely heavy, but additional rainfall amounts between now and Friday could be excessive posing the threat of serious flooding. Look at the bulls-eye in SW Alabama on this potential rainfall map.
