Active Storm Day

Not everybody will get a storm today, but for some of us, the storms could put on quite a show, with flooding rainfall, gusty, possibly damaging winds, and deadly lightning in spots.  A southward moving front, in the Tennessee valley will move into central Alabama by evening.   With tropical moisture in place, some locally strong storms will fire up in the afternoon heat.  Coverage will decent…with at least 50% of the area affected.

A FEW STRONG/SEVERE:    UPDATE 11:30AM: UPGRADED Severe risk from SPC. Much of west and west central AL in a Slight Risk, along and west of I-65. Marginal Risk elsewhere. Damaging wind is the main threat.  The threat is highest in the Slight Risk area.  A few warnings are a good bet from time to time today.

NEXT FEW DAYS:  Scattered storms will be around daily, next few days, especially in the afternoon and evening.  Best coverage will be today.  It will be hot, but not quite as hot as the last 4 days, when highs soared into the middle 90’s.  Highs will be closer to 90-92.  The heat index will flirt with triple digits again.  Stay hydrated.

BEACH UPDATE:  Rain chances will be running just a bit higher at the Beach today and through  the weekend, storm coverage in the 60% range today, and about 50% on Sunday & Monday.  Highs in the upper 80’s  Gulf water temp. has reached a season high of 86, at the buoy just south of Orange Beach.

TROPICAL DEPRESSION 4 NO MORE:           NHC issued the final advisory on TD 4 yesterday.  At the moment, the tropics are quiet.  Global models advertise some future problems in the Caribbean within the next 10 days.  Stay tuned.

Stay weather aware today.  Yesterday, strong, slow moving storms, caused some flooding issues in spots, and knocked out power in spots.  Today will be similar.  Remember our weather app has radar and future radar which will help you in planning your outdoor events.  Radar also shows lightning strikes, too.

Have a nice weekend.  There will be updates as needed,  Follow me on Twitter for frequent updates.
