Heat Advisory again: Heat & Big Storms

Here we go again. NWS continues the heat advisory for much of central & north Alabama until 7PM.  Like yesterday, the heat index will be near or above the 105 danger mark in spots.  Actual highs will be at least in the middle 90’s.  Stay hydrated!  Limit sun exposure as much as possible.  Make sure your pets have plenty of shade and water. The other concern today is random strong storms…

SCATTERED STORMS TODAY – SOME STRONG:  Home many times have you heard me say, “Intense heat can lead to Intense Storms.”   Again today, the atmosphere is “ripe” for the development for some intense storms, which are most intense during the heat of the afternoon, and into the early evening.  Not every town will get one, but coverage today will be a little more generous at about 40%.  Storms will be even more numerous tomorrow. The stronger storms will put on a BIG show:  gusty winds 40+ mph, intense lightning, torrential tropical downpours.  Be watchful, particularly if you are out on a lake or river.  Radar and Future Radar on our weather app will be very helpful and useful to you today.  It will also show you the storms with lightning strikes.  Be careful today.  Too many people have already lost their life to lightning strikes this year.

NEXT FEW DAYS:  The trend over the next 4 days will be for better rain chances, which will help lower the high temperatures a few degrees.  Best rain chance of Monday and Tuesday with 60% coverage.  Then, later in the week…more heat returns as storms thin out.

BEACH FORECAST:  With the Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo in progress, all eyes will be on the radar here on the Beach.  Scattered big storms will be roaming around.  Storms will be more numerous Sunday and Monday.  Gulf water temp. is 87.

Have a nice weekend.  Make sure you check with our weather app from time to time, to stay on top of the intense heat and the strong storms.  Like the last two days, I’ll alert you from time to time with the latest.  Your next video will be Monday morning at 4:45.
