Warm Weekend and Beyond

It sure doesn’t feel like November.  We had 80 Thursday, 82 yesterday and we are likely going to be in the lower 80’s through the weekend, and perhaps through Tuesday, before the next cold front turns us sharply cooler, again.  Rain chances are small today, for most of us. (Early morning risers could see some showers.  More on that in a moment)  If you have outdoor plans today and random shower is possible but many and most towns will stay dry. Sunday through Tuesday, rain chances are even smaller. In fact,  under 20%.  The next decent chance of showers will be with the cold font by mid week.

EARLY MORNING SHOWERS: Overnight a robust band of showers & storms moved into west Alabama.  Early this morning as I prepare this post, the band of showers is decaying quickly as it moves into central Alabama.  By the time many read this update, the showers will have dissipated.  A few spotty random showers are possible later in the day.

NEXT FEW DAYS:  It will feel a little bit like “Indian Summer” this weekend through early week, then sharply cooler and showers return for Wednesday and Thursday.  Hang on cold weather fans!   Just a few more days of this…  Looks like shorts and teeshirts will be in fashion at the Fair this weekend.

MID WEEK COLD FRONT:   A cold front will drops southward from the Tennessee valley on Tuesday, reaching the coast by Wednesday morning.  The better rain chance with this front will actually be Wednesday and Thursday, as waves of low pressure move along the front along the Gulf coast.

The raw GFS numbers are the most dramatic with the cool down behind the front.  Don’t take the actual numbers literally.  We are just looking a trends here.

FOOTBALL TODAY:  Alabama has a big one in Tuscaloosa tonight.  Auburn is over in College Station, Texas this morning, and Huntingdon has a home game here in Montgomery at 1PM.  It should be very warm for each of those games.  Small rain chance in Montgomery & Tuscaloosa.  If you are headed to that big Bama/LSU matchup, plan for an 80 degree afternoon for tailgating.  Very mild during the game.  A little humid, too.  College Station, Texas will be teetering close to a record high temp by the 4th quarter of Auburn vs. Texas A&M.

FALL BACK!:   Don’t forget This is the weekend we Fall Back and go back to standard time.  Before you go to bed late tonight, set your clocks back one hour.  This means we get an extra hour of sleep tonight.  The new reality: on Sunday, sunrise will be at 6:06 and sunset at 4:51!

Hope you have a great weekend!  Looks like a super forecast for the last weekend of the Alabama National Fair.  I’ll see you out there Sunday afternoon.
