Freeze Warning Tonight

The Cold Front has now exited the state.  Much cooler is sweeping in, on brisk northwest winds.  Highs today will not make it out of the 50’s.  And, we are headed for a widespread freeze tonight across much of the area, except for perhaps the Wiregrass counties.  Be sure to protect your tender vegetation.  After the chilly start Monday, we’ll see a decent recovery in the afternoon.  The Thanksgiving Week forecast looks pretty nice.  A disturbance in the Gulf later in the week should stay south of us, and I expect a dry forecast at least through Iron Bowl Saturday, with comfortably cool days and chilly nights.  Details below.

FREEZE WARNING TONIGHT:  A Freeze Warning covers most of the state, even into south Alabama, except for the extreme southern strip of counties.  The average date of the first freeze is November 18, so we’re pretty much right on time.  So far, this season in Montgomery has been 35.  Some towns have already reached the freeze mark, but this is the first widespread freeze.  After the first widespread freeze, freeze warnings will no longer be issued until the Spring.

NEXT FEW DAYS:  The Thanksgiving week forecast is a good one.  As I mentioned above, that Gulf disturbance later in the week, should be rather weak, and it should leave us alone.  I have removed the threat of showers from the forecast for the rest of the week.  Thanksgiving should be comfortably cool, but nice.

FOR THE HUNTERS:  Winds today will be northwest at 10 to 20 mph and gusty.  Winds die down tonight.  Monday:  north wind at 6-12 mph.

IRON BOWL FORECAST:  So far, Iron Bowl Saturday in Auburn looks just about perfect.   Morning low 40, afternoon high 65.  Dry.  Mostly sunny.  Looks like great weather for the Big Game!   I’ll keep refining the details as we go through the week ahead.

I’ll have a complete video briefing update for you first thing tomorrow morning.  I hope you have a great Sunday!

Cold Front Will Bring Big Changes

Big weather changes are on the way.  But, if you have outdoor plans during the day Saturday, the weather should not be a problem, at all.  It will be a partly sunny warm November day with a high in the middle 70’s.  A strong cold front enter NW Alabama late this afternoon and makes it all the way down to Troy by Midnight.  The best chance of showers and thunderstorms will be along the front, as it moves through this evening and tonight.  It will be sharply cooler behind the front Sunday, and many areas could see a freeze on Monday morning.

TIMING THE RAIN:  A few Future Radar snapshots from the hi-res NAM model will give you a pretty good sense on the movement of the front and the timing of the rain reaching your area this evening.  The front will be close to Clanton by about 8PM, then southward to about Dadeville – Montgomery – Greenville at 10PM, and southward to Troy by Midnight, and far SE Alabama by the wee hours tonight.

BIG CHILL BEHIND THE FRONT:  The coldest morning will be Monday morning when several locations could easily be at or close to the freeze mark.  I think we will see a Freeze Watch or a Freeze Warning as we get closer to Monday morning.

NEXT FEW DAYS:  After the weekend, daytime highs will start to moderate.  The Thanksgiving week mid and late week forecast is complicated, as low pressure tracks along the northern Gulf coast.  That low could tease the area with a few showers Wednesday and Thursday.

THANKSGIVING:  Right now, I have a cool Thanksgiving Day holiday forecast with a morning low in the lower 40.s and a cool afternoon high near 60.  I’ll mention a very small chance of showers, mostly south and east of the I-85 corridor.

Have a nice weekend

Cold Front Approaches: Showers, Then Sharply Cooler – FRIDAY Video

Happy Friday!  We have a couple of warm November days to look forward to, before a strong cold front arrives Saturday evening, bringing in showers, then sharply cooler temperatures. We’ll talk about what could be a freezing start on Monday morning for many.  Plus, there are new wrinkles in the Thanksgiving week forecast.  A developing low in the Gulf will be the player that could teases us with showers around the holiday.  I’ve got the whole story for you in a concise 2 minute package on your Friday morning weather video.

Should be a warm Friday & Saturday across the area with highs in the 70’s.  In fact middle 70’s by Saturday.

A Strong cold front arrives Saturday evening and Saturday night, which will bring showers to the area followed by sharply cooler temperatures.

Here’s a sneak peek at the Wednesday travel weather and the Thanksgiving Day Forecast

Updated: Big Weekend Changes – THURSDAY Video

Good Morning!   Look for a warming trend, before the next temperature plunge this weekend.  Warmest day will be Saturday.  I have updated the timeline on the Cold Front’s arrival, including how rain could affect your Saturday evening plans.  A Widespread freeze is a good bet behind the front.  We’ll take a look at Thanksgiving week including the Thanksgiving forecast details.  Lots of good information on your Thursday morning personal weather briefing.

Weak front drifts through the state today, but it’ll have little if any effect on our weather.  We had mid 60’s yesterday, but I think low 70’s are a good bet today, and mid 40’s tonight.

Our Warming Trend continues through Saturday, before sharply cooler air takes over Sunday and Monday.  Much of the area could see the first widespread freeze by Monday morning.

The big travel day on Wednesday shows most of the active weather across the northern tier of the US, while much of the southern half of the country will be storm-free.

My forecast for Thanksgiving.

Here’s the pictures painted by the computer model as we look ahead to Thanksgiving and Iron Bowl Week.  The Euro and the GFS….

Warming Trend – Then a Weekend Cold Front – Wednesday Video

Good Morning!   It will get warmer before it gets colder.  I’ll update the warming trend, plus that weekend cold front has slowed down a bit.  Showers could affect some of your Saturday evening plans.  Sharply cooler air is on the way.  We’ll look at the new temperature guidance and which nights will be the coldest.  Plus, I have a peak at your Thanksgiving and Iron Bowl weekend forecast, too.  Here’s your Wednesday morning personal weather briefing with your toast and coffee, this morning.

Weak front on the way, will most likely be a dry front by the time it reaches Alabama later today and tonight.

Late week Warming ahead…followed by a Strong Cold front arriving on Saturday evening with scattered showers, then sharply cooler Sunday and into Thanksgiving and Iron Bowl week.

The Global Model guidance indicates quite a change behind that strong Cold Front Saturday evening/night.   A string of chilly days and cold nights ahead for Thanksgiving and Iron Bowl week.    Here’s a peak at the Euro and GFS models.
