SUNDAY UPDATE:  Severe Weather Threat Monday Night/Tuesday

Looks like a great Sunday ahead.  After the morning chill, we should warm up nicely into the low 70’s  The risk of showers will hold off until early evening.  Monday will be a warm 80 degree day, with the risk of scattered showers and thunderstorms, but the all eyes on a developing storm system which will spread a significant severe weather threat into Alabama late Monday night into Tuesday, Election day.

TODAY:  Mostly sunny and warmer. Clouds will increase in the afternoon.  Winds will be southeast  at 12-18 mph by afternoon.  After a morning in the mid 40’s, afternoon the high will soar into the low 70’s.  Risk of showers will reach the I-65 corridor by about 6PM.  Scattered showers tonight.  Tonight’s low 59.

SEVERE WEATHER THREAT:  The greatest risk of severe weather  (Enhanced Risk) is across the northwest quarter of the state, starting Monday night, with a stage 2 “slight risk” covering roughly the northwest half of the state.  A Marginal Severe Risk extends southward through the Troy area.  The greatest severe threat will be in the overnight hours, from about 10PM Monday night until roughly 9AM Tuesday morning.  All modes of severe weather are possible including tornadoes.  The greatest threat of ‘significant long-tracked’ tornadoes will be across the northwest counties. NEXT FEW DAYS:   Looks like an active weather week.  After the severe storm threat Monday night into Tuesday, Wednesday should be fairly quiet before another cold front delivers another round of showers and storms on Thursday.  Once again, some strong storms are possible with the next front.  We’ll have to watch for any future severe weather threat.
