SATURDAY UPDATE:  Generous Supply of Showers & Storms

If you’re looking for rain, all the signs look good for the next 3 days. It’s a perfect set-up, with an upper tough over the state, and tropical moisture in place.  Add some daytime heating, and bingo, storms will be in ample supply.  There’s still no guarantee that every town will get lucky.  The storms will still be random.  Be flexible with your outdoor plans this weekend. You may have to move festivities indoors at times.  Watch out for lightning.

Here’s the set-up at 20,000 feet.  The upper trough remains in place through the weekend.

TODAY:    Much of the morning will be dry.  Scattered showers and storms could pop up anytime.  They will be most numerous in the afternoon and evening.  Like yesterday, the storms will be rather slow movers.  The stronger storms could produce gusty winds, intense lightning and very heavy rainfall.  Keep in eye on our weather app to monitor storm progress, particularly if you’re out on the Lake today.  Be ready to head to safe shelter.  High 93.  Low tonight 73.    Just to give you an idea on the expected storm coverage today, here’s one  Future Radar snapshot at 3PM today from the HRRR model.

NEXT FEW DAYS:   The much higher than normal rain chance remains in place through Monday.  After Monday, we go back to that standard 20-30% summertime rain chance.  It’s amazing to think that thousands of kids start school this week, some as early and Tuesday!

TROPICS:   Invest 96-L continues to churn westward in the tropical Atlantic.  The National Hurricane Center has scaled back the probability of development into a Depression or Tropical Storm.  The system, as it approaches the Islands, will be encountering a more hostile atmosphere.  Will 96-L survive and develop.  Some models say YES, other models, like the GFS and the Euro suggest this system could fizzle.  We’ll continue to monitor.

BEACH FORECAST:   Many families are enjoying the LAST Beach weekend before school begins.  Although showers and storms will be in ample supply this weekend,  it won’t be a washout. Just be flexible.  Gulf water temperature is 87.  Obey the flags on the Beach for the rip current risk.
