SATURDAY UPDATE:  Heat Advisory In Effect – Near a Record Today?

Good Morning…from the National Weather Association in Huntsville.  I know it’s football season, but we have a day of blazing, dangerous heat ahead.  A Heat Advisory covers a multi-state area from Texas eastwards to Alabama.  The actual high on the thermometer will be near 100 for at the next three days,  I can’t rule out a stray shower this weekend, but I have widely scattered storms in the forecast Tuesday & Wednesday.  Your odds of getting wet over the next few days is small.

TODAY:   Blazing heat.  Sunshine dominates.  Rain chances are under 20%, but not zero.  NWS has added a Marginal Severe Risk for damaging wind gusts. So there won’t be many storms, but they could be strong.  Near a Record today?   Maybe.  Record high is 101 in 1925.  We’ll be near 100, with a Heat Index of 105 or higher.  Low tonight 72.

NEXT FEW DAYS:  The HEAT rolls on with a high near 100 Sunday & Monday.  Even upper 90’s Tuesday.  Widely scattered storms for some lucky communities Tuesday & Wednesday.  Otherwise, it’s get on the hose time.

HURRICANE DORIAN:  Dorian, still with winds of 85 mph, is located about 145 miles SE of Nantucket, Mass., now racing off to the northeast at 25 mph.  A Hurricane Warning is in effect for Nova Scotia and Newfoundland in the Canadian maritime providences!

Last Saturday at this time, Dorian was undergoing rapid intensification and was threatening the Abaco Islands within 24 hours.  Look at the amazing trek of this monster, historic storm.

ELSEWHERE IN THE TROPICS:  The field has calmed down slightly.  Gabrielle we don’t care about.  HOWEVER, we’ll watch the future on Invest 94-L.  It has possibilities down the line.  Some of the longer range models have this system becoming a big deal in the next 8 to 10 days as it heads in the general direction of the Bahamas and toward to Southeastern United States.  We’ll be watching 94-L.

Today is kind of a tourist day for me. The actual Conference business starts tomorrow morning with the Broadcaster’s Workshop…all day till 5.  I’m headed to the Space and Rocket Center later. Others are in a Golf tournament.   (I’m not a golfer)  Others are hosting Weatherfest for kids,   I have a lunch and dinner scheduled with old buddies.. People you know…  J

I will have another Blog update tomorrow morning.  Have a nice weekend.   Stay hydrated.
