SUNDAY UPDATE:  December Begins – Temperature Plunges – The Week Ahead Updated

Good morning!  It was rather turbulent overnight as a line of storms moved through the state.  Winds gusted to 50 mph in spots, but nothing too extreme.  Welcome to December!  And, right on cue we are going to see a huge temperature plunge.  Saturday, Montgomery tied a record high with 80.  At Midnight we were in the mid 70’s.  Monday’s high may not make it out of the 40’s, and we should be in the 20’s first thing Tuesday morning.  How about that for a Temperature Plunge!  This graphic needs no explanation.

Early this morning, the front which brought the rain has made it to the coast.  The second cold front, which arrives by afternoon, as the much colder air AND the winds will pick up dramatically behind this second front.  To the north, an awful travel scenario from the Great Lakes to the Northeast on this huge holiday travel day.

TODAY:  Near Dawn, as I type this, a few showers continue to roam around from the US 80/I-85 corridor here in central AL into SE Alabama.  Showers exit early.  Clouds hang on into mid-day before clearing.  It will become windy.  By afternoon, after the second front moves through, north winds at 10 to 30 gusting as high as 30.  High today around Noonish in the mid 60’s.  (after 70’s at Midnight).  50’s by sunset.  30’s overnight.

MONDAY:  Sunshine but cold.  30’s in the morning.  Our high may only reach 49.  Upper 20’s Monday night.  A little breezy during the day.

NEXT FEW DAYS:  Coldest morning will be Tuesday morning, in the upper 20’s.  Temperatures start to moderate Wednesday.  More rain returns Thursday night into Friday.  I don’t think this will be a major storm system.  Right now next weekend looks dry.

POST IRONBOWL:  Whatever side of the ball you are on, yesterday’s Ironbowl was a game for the ages.  It certainly could have gone either way.  It was exciting to watch, and the weather was absolutely phenomenal.  The big clean up at Toomer’s corner begins today.

Sorry for the later post this morning.  I was up much of the night tracking storms.  Fortunately, except for a few trees down here and there, the storms stayed just below Severe Limits.

I will have a video update for you first thing tomorrow morning at 4:45AM.   Have a nice Sunday!
