SATURDAY UPDATE:  Not Quite as Warm – Showers Return Sunday & Monday

Most of north Alabama got some rain from the cool front which moved through the state overnight.  Unfortunately, the rain fell apart once it reached central Alabama.  This map shows who got some rain and who did not.

So, today will be about 12 degrees cooler than yesterday.  (We had a record tying high of 88° Friday).  And, we have another shot of getting some rain Sunday and Monday.  Keep the fingers crossed.  The rain will help the pollen situation.

Yesterday ended nine days in a row in the 80’s.  But guess what?  The 80’s will return in the week ahead.  Perhaps even upper 80’s again by Thursday.

TODAY:   Risk of a couple leftover showers, mostly this morning.  It will be slightly cooler than yesterday.  High 76°.  There should be more clouds than sun.  Cloudy tonight.  Chance of rain by the wee hours of the morning.  Low 56.

NEXT FEW DAYS:   Periods of rain are in the cards Sunday and Monday.  There could be some leftover showers Tuesday and Wednesday.  The 80’s will be back by Tuesday and Wednesday.  We could be in the upper 80’s by Thursday and Friday.

We have another shot at some rain over the next few days.  Fingers crossed!   We could use a little rain!

POLLEN FORECAST:   The rain Sunday and Monday should knock the pollen down into the medium range.  It’s been awful this year.  It will be nice to get a little break before it goes back up again.

NOAA SPRING OUTLOOK :

  •   NOAA forecasters predict widespread flooding this spring, but do not expect it to be as severe or prolonged overall as the historic floods in 2019.
  • Minor to moderate flooding is likely in all of Central Alabama.
  • NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center is forecasting above-average temperatures across the area this spring, as well as a  40 percent chance of above-average precipitation.
  • Additional rainfall events could trigger flood conditions on top of already saturated soils.

To say the least, we are dealing with extraordinary times.  All we can do is stay as positive and hopeful, and heed all the advice, including social distancing, washing our hands and limiting non-essential travel, as we deal with this Pandemic.  We will get through this.  It is somewhat comforting to know that we are in this together.

The business of keeping you up to date on the weather never changes.  I’ll have another Blog update for you in the morning.  Have a nice Weekend!
