Showers Return – 2 Part Weekend Storm System

Good Morning!  It’s a very mild Saturday morning, and temperatures will remain quite warm through Sunday, as we get ready for a 2-part weekend storm system.

Part one is this afternoon and tonight as showers spread across the area.  Part two, on Sunday night, is wetter and more active.  Perhaps some thunder, too.  Cooler air follows Monday. Another storm system arrives Tuesday night.

On this Blog update, I’ll get into some of the details on timing and potential rainfall.  Plus, we’ll look ahead into Christmas Week.

TODAY:   Warm for December again.  High 71.  Best chance of showers begins this afternoon and continues through Midnight tonight.  Not a steady rain.  Showers.  Low tonight 55.

Here’s a couple of Future Radar snapshots.  This particular model shows the band of showers reaching the I-65 corridor in the 2:00 hour.  Unfortunately, the rain could effect Christmas on the Coosa festivities in Weetumpka, but it won’t rain all the time.  The parade starts at 2:00PM.

SUNDAY:  Very mild again…high 69.  Can’t rule out some isolated showers during the day.  (30%).  Rain likely Sunday night, especially late Sunday nigh5t until Monday morning.  Some thunder possible too.

Total rainfall over the weekend could total 1-2” in spots.  Lighter amounts in Southeast Alabama.

NEXT FEW DAYS:   Following the Sunday night “soaker” (which ends by about Dawn Monday, it will be breezy & colder Monday.  A cool week ahead.  More rain Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

Here’s a peek at 10 day trend.  Warm this week.  Cool next week.  Potential freezing mornings would be Thursday and Friday.  Then a warming trend as we start Christmas Week.

LONG RANGE:  I caution you, timing and details for Christmas Week will change several times with each model run.  I just wanted to drive home the idea that the active weather pattern will continue, with the potential for two storm systems….one next weekend, and perhaps another significant system somewhere around Christmas Eve.  We’re just taking a peek.

CLOUDS HIDE THE METEORS:  This weekend is the peak of the BEST meteor shower of the year, the Geminids.  Unfortunately, clouds will keep us from seeing the meteors.

GOOD MORNING:

I hope you enjoy this nice, storm-free early December weekend. I’ll have another Blog update early tomorrow morning.  Stay safe and warm.
