SUNDAY UPDATE: Cool Sunday – Extended String of Nice Days – Warming Trend by Mid-Week

Good Morning!  Our weather news is very good in the week ahead.  Tranquil Days through at least Friday.  There is a nice warming trend in our future.

Meanwhile, we continue to monitor and deal with the enormity of the horrific Tornado tragedy across six states. It’s difficult for the human brain to process a tragedy like this. So many lives have been changed forever. So many cities and towns have been devastated. I feel numb. My words are not adequate. The last time I felt this kind of numbness what after April 27, 2011 when Alabama was the epicenter of the worst tornado outbreak in US history.

TODAY:   Sunshine will dominate.  A cool December day.  High in the upper 50’s.  Northeast wind 6 to 12 mph.  Clear and cold tonight.  Low 37.

NEXT FEW DAYS:  A nice string of days in the week ahead.  Mid 60’s Monday.  Near 70 Tuesday.  Warming trend continues Wednesday through Friday.  Highs in the 70’s.  Several storm-free days ahead.  Next chance of showers will be on Saturday.

Nice Warming Trend this week! No arctic air in sight over the next 10 days..

HORRIFIC TORNADO TRAGEDY:  NWS survey teams will continue to survey the tornado tracks and assign intensity levels.  It is, unquestionably the worst December outbreak in history. It also is one of the worst nocturnal tornado outbreaks in decades.  The death toll is unknown, even this morning.   The map below shows some of the tornadoes, but now all.  It does show you the large part of the country affected.  One tornado may have been on the ground for over 250 miles from Arkansas to Kentucky.  The tri-state Tornado of March 18, 1925 was on the ground for 219 miles.

Although Mayfield, Kentucky was perhaps one of the most devastated towns, so many other cities and towns, impacted by the tornadoes, suffered damage which is hard to believe.  So many lives have been changed forever.  Recovery will take a long time.  A terrible night of terror, two weeks before Christmas.

This picture of Mayfield, Kentucky is beyond all words.

.

By the way…Montgomery tied a record high with 82. Previous record was 2007.

I’ll have a complete video in the morning, online by 4:45 AM.  I hope you have a nice Sunday.
