10AM UPDATE:
Round one Severe Threat has ended for many of us, except for portions of SE and SW Alabama.

EARLY MORNING UPDATE:

Today is certainly a day to stay Weather Aware.  Two rounds of severe weather will affect the state. The first round will be this morning.  Then, Severe storms will likely redevelop this afternoon.  All modes of severe weather are possible, including tornadoes.  The Storm Prediction Center has issued a concerning ENHANCED (Level 3) Risk through the heart of Alabama.   After the storm system moves through tonight, we’re in for a very nice weekend, as winter ends and Spring begins.  On this video, I’ll bring you up to date on the details and the timeline.  And, we’ll look ahead.  We could be dealing with another concerning severe weather risk next week.  Perhaps as early as Tuesday night into Wednesday.  ‘Tis the season for severe weather.

There’s a very good chance that we’ll deal with TWO rounds of severe weather today.. The first round later this morning. Then, it looks like the atmosphere will have a chance to recover, leading to a potential second round of severe weather. The main risks in round one would be damaging wind gusts and perhaps large hail. Round two this afternoon will include a Tornado Risk. The Storm Prediction Center has a concerning ENHANCED (Level 3) Risk through the heart of Alabama.

Here’s a sneak peek at a hi-res model (HRRR), showing a linear set-up later this morning, and a more concerning cellular set-up this afternoon, with the potential for rotating super cells.

Fortunately, the weekend looks great, as winter ends and Spring begins.

I’m happy to say we’re in for a beautiful weekend. 60’s Saturday. 70’s on the first day of Spring Sunday. Spring begins at 10:33AM. The Vernal Equinox. Warmer Monday. Then, another Severe Weather Threat Tuesday night into Wednesday.
