FRIDAY Update: Front Brings Showers & Storms Today – Rain Chance Shifts Southward This Weekend

Good Morning!  Here’s my brief video forecast discussion.

CLIMATE DATA:    Yesterday’s high in Montgomery was 90, Morning low 72.  Normal High/Low 94 and 72.  Rainfall:  TRACE.  ( I had .75” in East Montgomery!)         Sunrise at 6:08 AM.  Sunset 7:33

TODAY:  As that frontal boundary works southward today,  Storms will tend to be scattered to numerous again today, especially this afternoon & this evening, especially across the southern half of the state.  Storms fade out later this evening.  High today near 90   Low tonight 72.

Hi-res Future Radar shows the better rain chances today south of the frontal boundary, especially from  the US 80/I-85 corridor southward.

A southward moving front will be the focus for storms across the southern half of the state today.  By Saturday and Sunday, the best rain chances shift southward to the coast.

NEXT FEW DAYS:  Storms start to thin out in number Saturday and Sunday, and even Monday & Tuesday.  More widely scattered or isolated.   Except at the coast where rain chances will remain quite high each day.  Highs 90-93 each day.  Lows at night in the low 70’s.

The front will also bring somewhat lower humidity for the central and northern part of the state over the weekend.  Lower dewpoints.  You will feel the difference here in central Alabama.

.

BEACH OUTLOOK:   It’s not a good weekend forecast at the Beach.  Higher than normal rain chances continue through the weekend.  Highs in the 80’s.  Gulf Water temperature 86.  Rip current HIGH, especially from Destin eastward, through Saturday and Moderate Sunday.

It’s been a tough few days on the coast, and that will continue through the weekend, I’m afraid.    Locally heavy downpours.

TROPICAL OUTLOOK: Invest 97-L has fizzled in the Tropical Atlantic .  The rest of the Atlantic Basin is quiet for now.

I think we should keep close tabs on the Gulf next several days.  But, it’s just a feeling I have.

Thanks for reading this Blog this morning! This morning we are LIVE on the radio from 6 to 9 on NewsTalk 93.1.  Watch us on TV on CBS 8 and ABC 32.  I’ll have another update for you in the morning.  Have a nice day.
