MONDAY Update – Nice Today – Tuesday Night Severe Threat

Good Morning!  Our storm-free pattern continues today. Temperatures have been a little cooler behind that Saturday cold front.  Today we’ll be in the 60’s, again, but sunshine will dominate. A potent storm system will bring a Severe Weather Threat to the Gulf states tomorow  &Tuesday night.  The greatest threat here in Alabama will arrive Tuesday night. The greatest threat will be  damaging straight-line winds and the risk of tornadoes along a strong squall-line (QLCS).  Tranquil weather returns Wednesday. The next storm system to affect the state will be over the upcoming weekend March 8/9th. Here’s my brief forecast discussion

TODAY:  Mostly cloudy in the morning, then gradually sunny.  High 69.  East wind 10 to 15 mph  Mostly cloudy tonight.  Low 46.

MY GOSH! Look at this massive storm system approaching. 1400 miles long! All kinds of weather with this.

SEVERE RISK TUESDAY NIGHT:  The greatest threat will be  damaging straight-line winds and the risk of tornadoes along a strong squall-line (QLCS). SPC has most of us in a Level 2 out of 5 threat level.

WIND ADVISORY:  Tuesday will be quite windy from 3PM Tuesday until Wednesday morning.  Wind gusts as high as 35 mph.

Here’s the updated timing map from NWS.

NEXT FEW DAYS:  Tuesday will be dry during the daytime hours.  There will be partial sunshine. It’ll be a warmer day.  High in the upper 70’s. A potent storm system is approaching from the west, bringing a severe weather threat to a multi-state area. The greatest threat here in Alabama will arrive Tuesday night. Tranquil weather returns Wednesday. The next storm system to affect the state will be over the upcoming weekend March 8/9th.

Here’s the 10 day model blend temperature trend. Notice  a rather cool day for this late in the season on Thursday.  But roughly 7 of the 10 days will likely reach 70 or above.

TORNADO ANNIVERSARY:  Saturday, March1st, marked the 18th anniversary of an EF4 tornado which struck Enterprise, Alabama, killing 9.  A tornado warning was issued by this office at  2:47 PM CST for Coffee County including the City of Enterprise, AL. The tornado touched down in Enterprise 18 minutes later at around 1:05 PM. The tornado was first observed on the ground at the Enterprise Municipal Airport. About five minutes later, after briefly lifting, it slammed into the Enterprise High School killing eight students and injuring at least 50. The fatalities occurred when a concrete wall collapsed onto a group of students huddled in the hallway in a crouched position. The football stadium was severely damaged. Another elderly resident of Enterprise was also killed. Many tornadoes occurred in Alabama that day including an EF-4 in Wilcox county that killed 1.
