TUESDAY Update: Dangerous Heat Index – Gulf Tropical Trouble

Good morning!  Today could potentially be the hottest days of the year so far. High in the upper 90’s. Dangerous Heat index near or above 105. Any random PM storms will be few and far between. Meanwhile, we are still monitoring Future Tropical Trouble in the Gulf this week. We are monitoring the future of Invest 93-L.  Although the system will probably stay south of Alabama, increasing the tropical moisture flowing into our state will spike the rain chance especially by Thursday. Here’s my brief video forecast discussion.

TODAY:  Sun/cloud mix.  High upper 90’s.  Heat index near or above 105. Danger level.  Only Random Isolated PM showers & storms. Widely separated.   Low tonight 74. Light wind.

FUTURE RADAR:    Storms will be extremely isolated in Alabama again today.  Widely scattered.

NEXT FEW DAYS: The Heat Index will be near or above the 105 Danger Level.  Expect mid to upper 90’s Wednesday. Lows in the muggy 70’s at night. The rain chance high Wednesday.  Random storms will be more numerous, especially Thursday and Friday, as we track the future movement of that Gulf tropical disturbance.

Check out  the Heat Index guidance, particularly Today and Wednesday.  A Dangerous level. Highest of the summer so far.

10 day model blend temperature guidance.

TROPICAL OUTLOOK:  Trouble in the Gulf this week. That area to Watch is now INVEST -93L.  NHC has a medium 40% chance of development so far, as a trough of low pressure in the Bahamas migrates westward across Florida into the northern Gulf.  Air Force RECON (WCJ-130) is scheduled to investigate this system today.

This the EURO Probability of Tropical Storm development.  The next available name is Dexter.

Here’s a Hi-res Icon model showing that the Louisiana coast may be vulnerable by Thursday night.,

This system will produce prolific rainfall totals over Florida and also the northern Gulf coast.
