Good Morning! If you are sick of this relentlessly cold winter, with repeated Arctic Invasions, you are going to love this week. Finally, a nice February Thaw. An extended string of daily highs 70+ degrees. Most nights will be in the 50’s. Not bad in the Dead of Winter. Today and Tuesday will be dry. There will be a risk of showers at times Tuesday night through Saturday, from a series of disturbances, that will brush by the area. The Saturday Main Event is becoming a potentially a “Big Deal”. I would not be surprised if we see some strong to Severe storms. Stay tuned. Here’s my brief Video Forecast Discussion.
TODAY: Sun/cloud mix. Could be a few sprinkles especially this morning. Warmer. High 73 SW wind 5 to 10 mph.
(Normal 63/39)
TONIGHT: Mostly Clear and not as cold. Low 49. Calm wind.

NEXT FEW DAYS: Our Nice February warming trend continues. Highs 70+ each day this week. Lows most nights in the 50’s. The trade-off is – scattered showers at times –Tuesday night through Saturday. The storm system on Valentine’s Day is starting to look potentially significant. (We need the rain. See Drought Monitor below)

VALENTINES WEEKEND STORM SYSTEM: We’ve been talking about this for several days. The models are starting to come together on a potentially significant storm system around Valentine’s Day – next Saturday. Perhaps even more likely Saturday night. Based on the storm set-up, it certainly appears as a potential Severe Weather situation for us. Stay tuned. We’ll know more as we get closer.

Rainfall over the next 7 days. Potentially significant rainfall totals in parts of central Alabama. We desperately need the raindrops.

A Severe Drought continues – especially from I-85 southward in our state. Even a Extreme Drought in the red closer to the GA border.

The 10 Day model Blend Temperature Trend. An extended string of comfortable days in the dead of winter.

CLIMATE PREDICTION CENTER OUTLOOK: Widespread warmth is on the way. February thaw. Spring fever. After a very cold Arctic Winter.

DAYS TILL SPRING: 39 days!
