TUESDAY Update:  Stormy at Times This Week

Good morning!  It was quite stormy at times over the holiday weekend and that scenario will continue today,  and for next few days.  In fact, the Storm Prediction Center has most of us in a Level 2 Severe risk today.  Showers and storms are likely for the next few days, especially in the afternoon and evening hours.  Watches and warnings are a good bet. Rainfall amounts will be locally heavy.  Unfortunately, the Storm Prediction Center has issued a Severe Risk each day – today through Thursday. Stay in touch where the storms are located with our weather app.  Search the app store for Rich Thomas weather.  A Cold Front will sweep through the state by Friday. That will set the stage for nice weather Saturday.  Here’s my brief video forecast discussion.

TODAY:  Mixed sun and clouds.  Warm and humid.  High 88.  Light wind.  Scattered showers and storms, mostly afternoon and evening.  Level 2 Severe Risk.  Low tonight near 70.

Once again today we are in a Severe Risk from SPC.  However,  this time, it’s a Level 2 risk as a frontal system approaches.  Damaging wind gusts are the main risk.  Watches and warnings are likely.

In addition to today’s Level 2 Severe Weather Risk, a Flash Flood Watch has been issued which cover much of central Alabama until Midnight tonight.

Today a rather large portion of the state is in a Level 2 Severe Risk from SPC from about Birmingham to Dothan. Watches and warnings are a good bet, again, like the last few days. Damaging wind gusts are the main threat.

NEXT FEW DAYS:  Random Scattered showers and thunderstorms will populate the radar every single day today through Friday.  Most numerous in the afternoon and evening hours.   Hot and humid.  Highs mostly in the 80’s  Low at night near 70.  Cold Front will sweep through the state by Friday. That will set the stage for nice weather Saturday.

Here’s the rainfall potential map for the week ahead.  Looks like locally rainfall amounts could be quite heavy in spots.

The countdown continues.  We’re getting close.
