Good morning! Welcome to Memorial Day Weekend. We are easing back into heat and humidity, and we’ll be radar watching every day. A stationary front parked over our state will set the stage for an increasing chance of showers and storms each day through the holiday weekend. Storms will be widely scattered today, scattered on Sunday, but the highest probabilities will be Monday through Thursday and most numerous in the afternoon and evening hours. Unfortunately, the Storm Prediction Center has issued a Severe Risk each day today through Memorial day. The risk level varies between Level 1 and Level 2. It’s a huge outdoor weekend, so stay in touch where the storms are located with our weather app. Search the app store for Rich Thomas weather. Have a good weekend, but stay weather aware.
TODAY: Mixed sun and clouds. Hot and humid. High 92. Light SW wind. Widely scattered storms, mostly afternoon and evening. Marginal Severe Risk. Low tonight near 70.

Well, it was nice while it lasted…those lower dewpoints, comfortable humidity days. But, that will be a thing of the past today and through the holiday weekend and beyond, with dewpoints in the very muggy 70’s. Of course, Memorial Day is the unofficial start of the Summer Season. Expect scattered strong storms to populate the radar each afternoon and evening. Some possibly Severe. Marginal Severe Risk.

NEXT FEW DAYS: Random Scattered showers and thunderstorms will populate the radar every single day Sunday through Thursday. Most numerous in the afternoon and evening hours. Hot and humid. Highs 90-92 daily. Low at night near 70.
SPC has issued a Severe Risk each day today through Memorial day. The risk level varies between Level 1 and Level 2. Damaging wind gusts are the main threat.

If you think SPC has put in an unusual amount of Severe Outlooks in May, you are correct! A LOT.

Here’s the rainfall potential map for the next 7 days. Looks like locally rainfall amounts could be quite impressive in spots.

BEACH FORECAST: Mostly dry today and Sunday. Getting much more active starting Monday. Gulf water now 81.

Thanks for reading the blog. The next scheduled full blog will be Tuesday morning. Have a nice weekend!
