THURSDAY UPDATE:    Is it May or June? – Hot & Dry

Good morning!   We are getting hotter and hotter.  Today will be the hottest day of 2025 so far.  Theres a good chance we’ll be in the low 90’s today and Friday and near 90 Saturday and Sunday.

It’s a dry forecast today and Friday.  Spotty random storms are possible this weekend.  But, many towns will stay dry. Meanwhile, the critical dewpoints are creeping upward.  Could we see dewpoints near 70 over the weekend?  That’s when it starts to feel uncomfortable humidity.  Here’s my brief video forecast discussion.

TODAY:  Hottest Day of 2025 so far.  Good bit of sunshine.  High 92.  SW wind 5 to 10 mph.

Partly cloudy tonight.  Low 69.  (Normal 86/61)

NEXT FEW DAYS:  Hot through the weekend.  We’ll be 90+ through Monday.

The risk of some scattered showers and storms returns this weekend.  But, unlike last weekend, the rain chance probabilities will be much lower.  Closer to the 20-30% range Saturday and Sunday. There is a Marginal Severe Risk roughly from I-85 northward.

DEWPOINT:  Yesterday dewpoints were in the mid and upper 60’s.  Same thing today and tomorrow.  We like it when the Dewpoint is below 60.  Mid 60’s is when you start to feel the humidity.  Most of the summer, we have dewpoints here in the awful 70’s.  Sometimes in the stupid/horrific mid 70’s.

Over the weekend, the dewpoint will be cruising close to 70.  You’ll feel it.  Summertime.

Here’s the rainfall potential map for the next 7 days shows the greatest potential in extreme north Alabama.

10 Day model blend temperature trend.   Late next week will be cooler.

BEACH OUTLOOK: A nice weekend forecast for a change. Dry. Highs in the low 80’s. Moderate rip current risk over the weekend. Gulf water 77.

The East Pacific Hurricane season begins today and the EURO model suggests a chance of development off the coast of Mexico.
