FREEZE WARNING TONIGHT

It’s chilly on this Sunday morning, with many spots in the low to middle 30’s. A few spots are close to freezing.  Tonight, the freeze threat is more widespread, and a Freeze Warning is in effect for much of the area.  We are due. Average date of the first freeze is November 18th. Last year the first freeze was Nov. 23rd.  Tuesday morning’s low will also be close to the freeze mark.

RAIN THIS WEEK?:  We have 2 fronts this week, with 2 rainfall opportunities.  First front will be late Wednesday night, Thanksgiving Eve, into Thanksgiving morning.  Once again, like the last several fronts, the rain with the front will diminish as it spreads across the state.  Rain chances are 20% at best.  Another front late Saturday night/early Sunday (Nov 28/29).  Rain chances may be slightly better with that front.

DRIEST NOVEMBER?:  So far there has been no measurable rain officially at most locations in central & south Alabama, including the official rain gauge at the Montgomery airport, and we may may be in line for the driest Novembers on record, since records started in 1872.  So far, the three driest are .19” in 1924, ,26” in 1890, and .32” in 1949.  Let’s hope we do not get on this list.  Time is running out, and the extreme drought is expanding.
