I’ve had to nudge the rain chances up a notch for today. The showers will be spotty, but still, you could encounter a shower or two today. Many will have no rain. I still think the best rain chances will arrive late tonight and tomorrow for Memorial Day. Be flexible. Have a Plan B ready. Early this morning, as I prepare to post this, a narrow ribbon of showers is stretched across central Alabama, moving southward. This is the remnants of strong storms in north Alabama overnight.
TODAY: We’ll call it partly sunny. Hi 89. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will be around. Coverage will be about 30%. Breezy today. Wind gusts to 20 mph. Here’s a couple of future radar snapshots from one model. Don’t take these literally. They just give you an idea of the rain coverage. Some of the storms could reach severe limits. (see Severe Weather Threat below)
SUNDAY NIGHT: Scattered showers/storms possible. 50% , especially by late tonight. chance. Low 72.
SEVERE WEATHER RISK: The storm Prediction Center has most of the state in a Marginal Severe Risk today. Parts of west Alabama are under a Slight Risk. Main threat damaging wind gusts.
MEMORIAL DAY – Monday: Not a “wash out”, but a pretty significant chance of showers/storms from time to time just about any time Monday, as a frontal system approaches.. I have kept the rain chance at 60%. High 85. A few storms could be strong to Severe. In fact the Storm Prediction Center has us in a Marginal Severe Risk for tomorrow. Damaging wind gusts are the main threat.
NEXT FEW DAYS: Here’s the forecast in a nutshell. Best rain chances from Sunday night through Tuesday.
Have a great weekend. I will have another post of you Monday morning with Future Radar to help in your Memorial Day planning. . Be safe, but have fun!
