Significant Pattern Change Ahead

Bundle up today. We get a brief “taste” of arctic air today & tonight.  It will be cloudy, breezy, cold, but dry.  Our high temperature will not make it out of the 40’s.  The breeze will make it seem colder.  It will be rather brisk at this evening’s Montgomery Christmas Parade.  Tonight’s low will fall to about 30 near dawn.  This may be the last arctic air we sample for several days. Keep reading..

NEXT FEW DAYS:  Look for a big temperature turn-around over the weekend, with upper 50’s Saturday, and into the 60’s Sunday through Tuesday.  But, we will also be going into a western pattern.  Showers & t’storms become a good bet by Sunday afternoon, through Monday.  There could even be some leftover showers Tuesday.  But, it looks like we will not need heavy coats for awhile after today.

CAMELLIA BOWL:  The weather looks absolutely ideal for the Camellia Bowl Saturday evening at Cramton Bowl, with the kick off at 7PM.  The tailgate weather and the game weather should be nearly perfect.

MAJOR PATTERN CHANGE:  No doubt about it.  We are headed for a significant pattern change.  In the upper atmosphere, the persistent trough of low pressure, will be replaced by a strong ridge.  That spells much above normal temperatures, well into Christmas week, before a significant front arrives Christmas weekend.  More on Christmas weekend in a moment.

Here’s the set up next week at 20,000 feet.  Talk about a radical change!

Here’s a sample of the Global models over the next 10-15 days.  Remember we are just looking at  “trends”,  in the Euro and the GFS.  In short, the trend will be warmer and wetter.  Highs will be in the 60’s many days and flirting with 70 some days.

CHRISTMAS WEEKEND:  Briefly, a significant front arrives with showers and thunderstorms.  That may happen Friday, December 22nd, unless the timing changes.

Behind the front it turns “cooler” but not sharply colder.  It’s too early to focus on the Christmas Day forecast specifics.  In general, right now, it appears like a dry day, with highs in the 50’s and lows in the 40’s  No white Christmas this year.

No video today, we had the office Christmas last night.  So, I slept in an extra hour this morning.  There will be blog updates, throughout the weekend, of course.  Your next video will be Monday morning.  Have a great weekend!
