Happy Iron Bowl Saturday! The weather today will be uneventful, and rather mild, just right for the game. More on the Iron Bowl forecast specifics below.
The rain, overnight, is quickly exiting into Georgia. Highs today will rise to the 60’s, and perhaps even 70 or above Sunday. But, hang on. Some much colder air is headed for Alabama in the week ahead.
TODAY: Clouds will hang tough this morning, but gradually we will work into partly sunny skies later. (see images below) Dry today. High in the middle 60’s. (Average high is 66). For the hunters: west wind at 5 to 10. Partly cloudy and chilly tonight. Low 46.
IRON BOWL: There have been cold & rainy Iron Bowls. Stormy Iron Bowls, with tornado warnings. But, this year’s should be pretty nice. Dense morning clouds will give way to partly sunny skies during the game. You can’t beat a kickoff temperature of 64. The temperature will fall to 56 by the end of the game. Wind should not be a factor.
SUNDAY: Mostly cloudy, very mild for November. High 70-72. Small shower risk in the afternoon (20%). Scattered showers Sunday night. Low in the mid 40’s.\
SHARPLY COLDER SOON: Get ready to sample some very chilly air in the week ahead. An approaching cold font brings showers to the area Sunday night. Then, much colder air funnels in on Monday. With highs barely in the lower 50’s Monday and Tuesday, the winds will make it seem colder. Morning lows will be near the freezing level for about 3 mornings in a row, Tuesday through Thursday mornings.
NEXT FEW DAYS: Our mild weekend will be replaced by some very chilly air next week. Best chance of showers will be Sunday night ahead of the cold front. Much of the week ahead should be mostly sunny. Warmer later week. Next big storm system next weekend.
FALL FOLIAGE: We don’t always see a lot of Fall foliage colors like this, in this part of central Alabama. This is Lake Jordan. Elmore county. Simply spectacular. Thanks to Lisa McMillan Gilliland
