Severe Threat Ends – A Look at The Week Ahead

Happy New Year!   This is going to be a very tricky Blog update to write, because we have an ongoing weather event in progress.  I will do my very best to keep it updated..especially in the Short Term Outlook below.  A rather dynamic storm system will progress slowly eastward today, reaching central Alabama around Noon and reaching the Georgia border by about 6PM.  The risk for strong to severe storms will continue until the front leaves the state.

SHORT TERM OUTLOOK:

10:30 AM

For all practical purposes, the severe threat has ended for all but extreme east Alabama.

7;30 AM UPDATE:

Severe weather threat has now ended west of I-65. A Marginal Risk covers areas from I-65 eastward. After the and of heavier showers and storms passes east of your location, the severe weather threat ends. By about 1PM, the threat ends in the eastern counties.

According to the Storm Prediction Center…the Severe Weather Risk area for today has been adjusted. Marginal Risk mainly from I-65 eastward today. #alwx

UPDATED Future Radar shows the main band of showers and storms east of Montgomery by 9AM, extending down to the Enterprise area. By about 2:00PM, the strongest storms will be exiting south Alabama.

Today’s high will reach the low to mid 70’s.  Cooler tonight…partly cloudy…Low 50.

SATURDAY:  A secondary disturbance will move northward from the Gulf.  Scattered showers are possible.  Cooler tomorrow, but still mild for January.  High 62.  Colder Saturday night …Low 39.

NEXT FEW DAYS:   Sunday should be a nice day with highs in the mid to upper 50’s.  Coldest night will be Sunday night.  (Low 33)   Another modest warming trend begins Monday through Wednesday.

Next storm system brings more rain to the state Thursday.

Another shot of chilly air will invade the state NEXT weekend. (Jan 9-10).   But, I don’t see any ARCTIC outbreaks during the next two weeks. Temperatures up to 11 degree below normal.

I’ll do my best to keep this Blog updated during the day. Our Weather App will instantly alert you to a Severe Weather Watch or Warning for your location.

There’ll be another Blog Update tomorrow Morning.  Stay weather Aware.     Happy New Year!
