SUNDAY UPDATE: Active Weather Week Ahead – Excessive Rainfall?

Good Morning!  We are enjoying a storm-free first weekend of Spring.  Enjoy a couple of nice days today and Monday.

But, get ready.  It looks like another very active weather week ahead, as a series of disturbances drift through the area Tuesday through early Friday.  The main event could be on Thursday.  We can’t rule out potential Severe Weather Thursday, especially in the afternoon & evening.  More tornadoes are possible.  But, the details on the Thursday potential is still coming together.   As you will see below, rainfall amounts could be rather excessive,

TODAY:  Periods of clouds and sun.  Still a little breezy.  Hi 67.  Northeast wind 6 to 16 mph.  Partly cloudy, chilly tonight.  Low tonight 47.

NEXT FEW DAYS:  Monday is the BEST day.  Sunshine warmer.  Then, it becomes rather active. Showers move in Tuesday.  Periods of showers and thunderstorms Tuesday night through Friday Morning.

EXCESSIVE RAINFALL THIS WEEK:  The models continue to hint at potentially excessive rainfall totals in the week ahead.   Perhaps over 4” for some of us.  Southwest Alabama could see 5 to 7”.

SEVERE WEATHER THREAT?:  Severe weather can not be ruled out on Thursday.  Especially Thursday afternoon and Thursday evening, including the threat of tornadoes.  The extent of this threat and timing, at this point, is very much in question.  It all depends on that northward moving warm front.  How far north does the “quality” warm air advance.  Stay tuned.  We’ll know more as we get closer to Thursday.

TORNADO SURVEYS CONTINUE:  Several additional tornado surveys were conducted yesterday by the National Weather Service.  Look at the maps below.  There have been additions.  We are up to 21 confirmed tornado tracks in our state, with more surveys still pending. There were 3 EF-2’s, 12 EF-1’s and the rest EF-0s.
Across the South, there have now been 41 tornadoes surveyed from Wednesday’s event.

Two maps below – the state split in half.

POLLEN:  Pollen will be in the reasonable range today and Monday, according to this forecast.  But, headed for the high range on Tuesday.

I hope you have a chance to enjoy this nice Sunday.  I’ll have a complete video update tomorrow morning. Have a nice day!
