Good Morning! Welcome to August. August will begin, much like July ended. Today will be another day of intense heat. It’s the Final day of the week-long Heat Advisory. Big heat can produce big storms. A southward moving front, combined with the heat will lead to some strong storms especially by this afternoon, tonight and Monday. Some storms will reach severe limits.
Are you ready to heat to break? How do highs in the upper 80’s sound? Temperatures will be much more reasonable starting Monday and through much of the week ahead.
Last Day of the Heat Advisory across the deep south.
A southward moving front will bring storms, but temperatures behind the front will be much more reasonable.
TODAY: Heat Advisory. Sun/clouds early. Increasing clouds today. High today 97. Strong storms will fire up, especially after lunch time and become quite numerous this afternoon. Some storms will require a Severe Thunderstorm Warning. Our Weather App will instantly alert you if there is a warning for your location. Boaters on area lakes beware. The storms will feature lots of dangerous lightning and gusty winds.
The Storm Prediction Center has most of the area in a Marginal Severe Risk today and into tonight. There will be a few warnings. Gusty winds 60+ mph are possible in the stronger storms.
The Heat Index, once again today will be excessive. It could reach 107 or higher in spots. Stay hydrated. Slow down.
NEXT FEW DAYS: Showers and storms will be numerous Monday, BUT, as the front moves closer to the coast, the number of storms will “thin out” Tuesday through Friday. The BEST news is the temperatures, which will be much more reasonable. Highs in the upper 80’s sure sound a lot better than upper 90’s. The Heatwave is about to break.
TROPICS: Although NHC says the Atlantic basin should be quiet through the next 5 days, the EURO model suggests we need to start watching the Tropical Atlantic over the next several days for possible development. Stay tuned. August is likely to get quite busy.
I’ll have a complete video update tomorrow morning. Have a great Sunday!
