SATURDAY UPDATE: Freeze Warning Tonight – Warm-up Next Week

Good Morning!  A fresh supply of cool air is flowing into the state.  Today will be quite a bit cooler than yesterday.  Freeze Warning tonight.  Most cities and towns will reach the freeze mark by Dawn Sunday.  Protect your tender vegetation.  By the way, this week happens to be the average date of the first freeze.  Based on averages November 18th, is the average date. 

     Sunday and Monday night will still be in the upper 30’s, but only one freeze is expected.  Look for temperatures to start moderating on Monday.  (Average high 71, low 44)   We’ll be in the 70’s Tuesday through Thursday.  Risk of showers with the next Cold front Thursday. 

TODAY:   Sunshine, but breezy.  (Northwest wind 10 to 15 & gusty)   Quite cool.  High 57.  Tonight:  FREEZE WARNING.  Many locations will be near or below the freeze mark at Dawn. Clear skies and light wind.

   Today, we’re on the cool east side of High pressure in Texas.  Brisk day ahead…

FOOTBALL WEATHER:  Brisk day today.  Homecoming in Tuscaloosa.  11AM Kick: 50 degrees, rising to 53 at the end.  NW wind 10 to 15, gusty.  Sweatshirt weather.  Not much different in Auburn.  11AM Kick:  54 degrees, rising to 57.   NW wind 10 to 15 gusty. 

NEXT FEW DAYS:  Extended string on storm-free days, Sunny and cool Sunday.  Warming trend next week.  70’s Tuesday through Thursday.  Scattered showers Thursday ahead of a weakening Cold Front Thursday.  NO severe weather expected.

That next cold front, which will move through the state Thursday, will be in a weakening stage when it arrives in Alabama.  No severe weather is expected, and certainly not much rain.

Another…”bigger deal” storm system will arrive around Monday, Nov. 22 (Thanksgiving week). 

ELMORE COUNTY STORM DAMAGE:  Thursday afternoon, as a thunderstorm moved through Elmore county, around 3:PM, there was wind damage near Claud, around Pleasant Hill road.  Tress down, damage to some mobile homes.  Could it have been a brief, weak tornado?  Possibly.  NWS will investigate this storm report.
