Saturday UPDATE: Potentially Stormy Saturday – Much Cooler Sunday

Good Morning!  Get ready for some big weather changes.  Showers and thunderstorms could affect your plans today & tonight, as a cold front approaches the state.  A few storms could be strong.  We are in a Marginal Severe Weather Risk.

Much cooler air will follow the front.  We may not reach 60° Sunday.  And, highs in the 50’s are a good bet Monday & Tuesday.

On this Blog update, one week before Christmas Day, we’ll look ahead.  Looks another storm system could bring more rain by late Monday into Tuesday.

TODAY:   A pre-frontal through will likely be the big weather-maker today.  Not the cold front itself.  Showers and thunderstorms will be most likely, mid-day and this afternoon, along and ahead of this feature.  A few stronger storms, with damaging wind gusts are possible.  High today mid 70’s.  Here’s a couple of Future Radar snapshots.  The window of concern here in central Alabama could be generally Noon to 4pm and 3 to 7PM across Southeast Alabama.

The Storm Prediction Center has a Marginal Severe Risk generally along and south of a Selma, Clanton, Alex City, Auburn line.  This does not appear to be a tornado situation, but we’re always watchful, especially this time of the year. The main threat would be a low-end Damaging wind threat.

Another round of showers and storms will come in tonight, with the cold front itself.  But, this round of showers and storms won’t be severe.  Low tonight 54.

SUNDAY:  The risk of leftover showers will be around in the early morning hours.  But, most of Sunday will be dry.  We may be in the lower 60’s during the morning, but temperatures will fall into thew 50’s.  It’s possible we could even see some sun-breaks by afternoon.  Chilly Sunday night….Low 40.

NEXT FEW DAYS:  It will be a rather cool Monday and Tuesday, with highs in the 50’s.  A low moving across the northern Gulf will bring more rain to the area Monday night and through mid-day Tuesday.  Wednesday through Christmas Eve Friday look pretty nice, at this point.  Warmer late week.

CHRISTMAS DAY?:  I’m feeling  a little better about the Christmas Day forecast, but there are still question marks.  The models don’t agree on the details.  In general, it looks storm-free, and quite mild.  Can’t rule out showers, but right now I would say the rain chances appear low.  We’ll continue to tweak the Christmas Day forecast as we get closer.

I’ll have another Blog update tomorrow morning. Stay weather aware today.  Our Weather App will keep you on top of the forecast.  Radar, future radar.  Instant push notifications for any severe weather warnings.   Have a nice weekend!
