1PM UPDATE:
The Storm Prediction Center has expanded the Marginal Risk area for Sunday. It now covers roughly 2/3 of the state. the main risk is damaging wind gusts. A couple of tornadoes can’t be ruled out. Main threat afternoon through evening.
EARLY MORNING UPDATE:
Good Morning! Our latest chill will quickly start to fade. Normal hi/lo is 59/36. Yesterday we made it to 50. Today we’ll tack on about 12 degrees and Sunday we’ll add about 10 more.
Today will be a dry and pretty nice January day. We have storm system on the way for Sunday. The Storm Prediction Center has added a Marginal Severe Risk for parts of central and south Alabama. A few strong/severe storms can’t be ruled out. There is a “non-zero” tornado threat.
Look for another sharp cool down behind the storm system, for the early part of next week.
TODAY: A Cold start. Quick warming. Clouds will increase during the day. High 62. Breezy. East wind 6 to 12 gusting to 20. Cloudy tonight. Not as cool. Low 47.
SUNDAY: Showers & storms become likely by afternoon. Warmer. High 72. A second round of showers & storms in the evening along the cold front. Colder Sunday night. Low 44.
The Storm Prediction Center has added a (Level 1) Marginal Severe Risk for parts of central and south Alabama. A few strong/severe storms can’t be ruled out. There is a “non-zero” tornado threat. The greatest Severe thereat is along and south of the U.S. 80 corridor, particularly in the afternoon and early evening.
Here’s a Future Radar model snapshot (HRRR) around 3PM Sunday. It shows scattered strong storms across central & south Alabama. It shows more showers & storms father to the northwest along the front.
NEXT FEW DAYS: After the potentially stormy Sunday, it will turn much cooler in the early pat of the week. Coldest day will be Tuesday. A freeze is likely Tuesday and Wednesday AM. Dry through Thursday. Risk of showers by about Friday.
