FRIDAY Update:  More Cold Air Funnels in – Chilly Weekend Ahead

Good Morning!  Allow me to produce a Blog Update this morning, instead of a video, following yesterday’s marathon Severe Weather Day – which featured a lot of watches and dozens warnings.  Winds gusted to 60+ mph in many locations, along a line of intense thunderstorms.  There were at least 4 tornado reports, including Hale county, and northern Elmore counties.  At least one fatality, and 8 injuries occurred in Sawyerville, in Hale county around 2PM.  Damage was significant.

Flooding rainfall in spots.  Many towns had 3 to 4 inches of rain.  Some places had much more than that. Montgomery broke it’s daily rainfall record for February 3rd with 3.18”.   We’re going to have to monitor the river levels over the next few days across central and south Alabama.  Many rivers are near flood stage or will go above flood stage.  If you live near a river, stay up with the latest river forecasts

You can get the latest river information at this link:

TODAY:  The cold front exits the state this morning.  The warmest temperature today occurred at Midnight.  Temperatures will fall.  We’ll hover in the 40’s all day long.  North wind at 10 to 20 will make it seem colder.

Leftover rain will continue at times through the morning.  Most rain will depart the area by mid-day.

TONIGHT:  Cloudy skies, then some clearing late tonight.  Breezy and cold.  Low in the upper 20’s.  North wind 12 to 18.  Wind chill by Saturday morning will reach at or below 20 in many towns.

NEXT FEW DAYS:   Very chilly Saturday.  High barely 50 or slightly above.  Upper 20’s Saturday night.  Sunshine.  Continued very cool for February Monday and Tuesday.  A little warmer Wednesday…we could possibly tease 60 degrees.  Storm-free next week.

The Model Blend over the next 10 days suggests we’ll make it back to the 60’s by the middle and later part of next week.

I’m fatigued this morning….thus the Blog instead of the video. Everything else is normal this morning, including Live on NewsTalk 93.1 and Live of CBS 8 and ABC 32.

I will have another complete blog update in the morning, and Sunday morning.
