TUESDAY Update:  Freeze Warning – Record Lows Expected

Good Morning!  The Cold front that swept through the state yesterday has ushered in drastically cooler air for so early season. Records are likely, starting with today’s daytime high, which will only be in the 60’s.  There’s a Freeze Warning for tonight and a Freeze Watch Wednesday night.  Record lows are likely both Wednesday and Thursday morning.  Call it an early season shocker.  Here’s my brief forecast discussion.

TODAY:     Expect a rather brisk day today.  Sunshine but windy and cold for October.  If we fail to reach 60 degrees, that will be the coldest high for October 18th since records began in 1872. (Record 60 in 2009)  High today 58.  Gusty north winds at 15 to 20+ mph. Because of the winds and low humidity, there’s also a Red Flag Warning in effect, because of the wild fire danger. Don’t burn. Clear and cold.  Record low expected tonight.  Freeze warning .  Low in the lower 30’s by Dawn.

Freeze Warning tonight for much of the state tonight.  There will be another freeze tomorrow night.

The area of purple on this map shows expected temperatures of anywhere from 15 to 30 degrees below normal.  Quite an early season cold blast.

Here’s an update on expected morning lows for Wednesday and Thursday.  If we get to freezing tomorrow morning it will be the earliest freeze in Montgomery weather history.  Previous record earliest freeze October 20, 1989.

NEXT FEW DAYS:    First freeze of the season is likely for many towns Wednesday and/or Thursday AM.   Highs in the low to mid 60’s Wednesday & Thursday  We’ll start to warm back into the 70’s by Friday and Saturday.  Perhaps near 80 by Sunday and lower 80’s early next week.

Nice warm-up over the weekend back into the 70’s.  Lower 80’s early next week.

RECORD LOWS IN JEOPARDY:  Wednesday’s Montgomery record low of 35 and Thursday’s record low of 32 are very much in jeopardy.

TROPICAL OUTLOOK:   I’m happy to say the Tropics are completely quiet for now.
