THURSDAY Update:  Nicole’s Fringe Effects – Rain & Gusty Winds – Colder Weekend

Good Morning!  Hurricane Nicole made history this morning, with landfall not far from Vero Beach.  It’s only the second hurricane to ever make landfall in November.  The large circulation around Nicole will affect Alabama with some rain and gusty winds today and tonight.  Behind Nicole, a strong cold front is on the way.  Get ready for a change of wardrobe this weekend.  Some chilly air is on the way. Here’s my brief forecast discussion.

TODAY:    Mostly cloudy.  Scattered showers by this afternoon.  Periods of rain likely this evening & tonight.   High today 74.    Northeast wind 10 to 20 mph, gusts to 30+.   Low 52.   Most of eastern half of Alabama is in a Wind Advisory.

Here’s a couple of Hi-res models.  They look very similar.  They indicate that some of the heaviest rainbands will be primarily from I-65 eastward this evening and tonight.

FRIDAY:

Expect some lingering Nicole effects early Friday.  Rain is still a good bit through about 9 to 10:00 AM.  Then mostly dry.   Winds Friday will be gusting to 15 to 25 mph, especially through mid day,  High mid 70’s.  Strong cold front approaches.  Colder Friday night.  Breezy.  Low 52.

Here’s a peek at the potential rainfall through Saturday.  Fingers crossed.  We need the raindrops.

NEXT FEW DAYS:    Behind Nicole, a strong cold front is on the way.  Get ready for a change of wardrobe this weekend.  Some chilly air is on the way. We’ll fall to the mid 30’s by dawn Sunday, and close to Freezing Monday AM.   Sunday’s high will only be in the 50’s.  Still quite cool Monday & Tuesday.

Looks like the Coldest morning will be Monday morning.

NICOLE UPDATE:    Hurricane Nicole made history this morning, with landfall not far from Vero Beach.  It’s only the second hurricane to ever make landfall in November.  The large circulation around Nicole will affect Alabama with some rain and gusty winds today and tonight.  Nicole is now a Tropical Storm.  Early this morning winds are at 70 mph.  The system will move across Florida today to the west coast and then curve northward into Georgia.  Lots of wind and rain for the southeast US.
