TUESDAY Update:   Active Pattern – Multiple Storm Systems

Good Morning!  A major warm-up continues.  We’ll be into the lower 70’s today and mid 70’s on Wednesday.  The rain gear will come in handy quite a bit over the next 5-6 days.  Storm system number one will bring showers to the state today.

The second one delivers a round of showers and storms by late Wednesday Night into Thursday.  Some of the storms in the overnight hours Wednesday Night will be strong to severe, along a line of storms. A couple of spin-up tornadoes can’t be ruled out.  Yet another storm system will drench the state with more rain this weekend.   Here’s my brief forecast discussion.

TODAY:    Cloudy & mild.  Showers likely, at times.  High 72.  South wind 10 to 15+ mph.  Showers taper off this evening. Mostly cloudy tonight.  Mild.  Low 57.

SEVERE RISK LATE WED, NIGHT/THURSDAY AM:    A line of strong thunderstorms will move into Alabama late Wednesday night.  The main Severe Risk involves damaging wind gusts 60+ mph along the line of storms.  Also, a couple of spin up tornadoes can’t be ruled out.

The Wednesday severe weather outlook shows the Marginal risk through much of west Alabama through 6AM Thursday.  After 6AM, the Thursday Severe Outlook covers much of central and east Alabama.

The line of strong to severe storms will move through during the overnight hours, reaching the I-65 corridor by about 6AM.

NEXT FEW DAYS:    The line of storms will depart the state by mid to late morning Thursday.  It will turn much cooler Friday.  The weekend will be chilly, as another Gulf coast storm system brings in another rain shield over the weekend, especially by Saturday night into Sunday.

WEATHER ANNIVESARY:  Do you remember what happened five years ago today?  Several inches of snow fell in the pre-dawn hours.  Morning low 14.  The snow pack on the roads turned to a total sheet of ice.  Travel became impossible.  Wind Chill fell below zero.  Daytime high 29.  Low at night 10.  Old man Winter visited Alabama five years ago today.  Our last big snow.
