THURSDAY Update:  Amazing Warmth – Flirting with Records

Good Morning!  Our amazing February warmth will continue.  There be a few spotty showers around today, but the rain chance is small.  A huge protective dome of upper level high pressure over Cuba is still in control.  Record highs will fall across the Southeast US today. Isolated showers are possible Friday, but, right now, the weekend forecast looks dry and warm.   Looks like the next storm system will hold off until early next week.  Here’s my brief forecast discussion.

CLIMATE DATA:  Yesterday’s high in Montgomery was 84, 2 degrees shy of the record.  Morning low was 64.  (Normal 67/42).  Max wind gust 38 mph.  Maxwell 32 mph.  Troy 40 mph.  Record highs were set in Birmingham, Tuscaloosa and Anniston.

Today’s record high in Montgomery is in jeopardy:  85 from 2019.  Today records are in jeopardy from New Orleans to New York and from Columbus, Ohio to Key West.

TODAY:   Breezy and unusually warm again today.      Mostly cloudy.  Widely scattered showers possible,   High 82. (Normal 67/42)  SW wind 10 to 15, gusts to 20 mph today.  Mostly cloudy very mild tonight.  Low near 68.

Future Radar…3:00PM….Not many showers around.  Isolated.

That huge, strong upper level ridge of High Pressure over Cuba is still in control of our weather.  It promotes warmth and diverts storm systems away from us.

NEXT FEW DAYS:  Spring preview will continue.  There will be a small chance of showers on Friday.   Friday’s high will be in the upper 70’s.  But, we should be back in the lower 80’s over the weekend, and it looks like we’ll be dry. Risk of showers returns Monday and Monday night.

Here’s expected rainfall through Monday.  NOT MUCH across the southern half of Alabama.

The warmth continues for the rest of February and over the first few days of March.   Here’s the 10 day Model Temp. trend.

The next Storm System holds off until early next week.
