FRIDAY Update:  Stormy Today – Weekend Temperature Crash – Much Colder

Good Morning!    More weather changes are in the cards.  A strong cold front will bring a round of showers and storms to the state today.  Much of central & south Alabama is in a severe weather risk. Then, brace yourself.   Are you ready for another cold plunge?  Ready or not…here it comes.   Colder air funnels in over the weekend.  We are headed for yet another freeze by the first day of Spring on Monday.  But, we’ll see a big rebound next week.   Here’s my brief forecast discussion.

TODAY:    Breezy and mild.  High 71.  Showers and thunderstorms likely.    A few strong storms are possible with damaging wind gusts.  Southwest wind 10 to 16 mph, shifting to northwest and increasing this evening and tonight.  Rain ends by late tonight.  Then, windy and colder.  Low 40.

Many of us are in a Level 1 Marginal Severe Risk today.   The greatest threat of severe weather will be in the South Alabama generally from Greenville/Troy southward.  Level 2 Risk.  Damaging wind gusts and large hail would be the main risk.

Here’s the Severe Risk timing, from 10AM in the far west to 6PM in the far southeast. Damaging wind gusts are the main risk in this situation.

.

Following the storm system, get ready for another temperature crash this weekend.

NEXT FEW DAYS:  There will be another round of showers and storms Friday as a strong cold front approaches.  A few strong/severe storms are a good bet.  Then, get ready for yet another Temperature Crash starting Saturday.  We could tease the freeze mark AGAIN by Monday morning, the First Day of Spring.  Very chilly for March this weekend through Monday.  Not quite as cold by mid-week.

The Coldest day will be Sunday.  We may struggle to reach 50 degrees.  Coldest morning will be Monday, on the first day of Spring.  Low 29 to 31.

.

Here’s the 10 Day Model Temperature Blend.   Stupid-cold weekend.  Warm-up next week.

BEACH FORECAST:   Less than in ideal forecast.  Stormy today, then a windy & colder weekend.
