Good Morning! Early this morning… A Tornado Watch is in effect for much of central Alabama until 7AM. The watch area goes as far south as Autauga, Elmore and Dallas counties. Stay weather aware. As I write this there have been 54 tornado reports in six states and dozens injured in a major US tornado outbreak which began Friday afternoon. By lunchtime, all of the storms will have left the area and moved into southeast Alabama. We’ll see big improvements by afternoon. Sunday will be a very nice day. More scattered showers and storms will return to the state Sunday night and Monday.
TORNADO WATCH: A Tornado Watch is in effect for much of central Alabama until 7AM. Tornadoes are likely. A couple of strong tornadoes area possible. Scattered wind gusts to 70 mph. Quarter size hail. The watch area goes as far south as Autauga, Elmore and Dallas counties.
After 7AM the Severe Risk shifts to the southeast half of the state.
TODAY: Showers and storms this morning. By lunchtime, all of the storms will have left the area and moved into southeast Alabama. We’ll see big improvements by afternoon. Warm today. High 84. West wind 10-15 gusting to 25 mph. Mostly clear cooler tonight. Low 49.
Some Future Radar Snapshots. The line still look s rather robust at 7:00AM. The tornado watch continues until 8AM. The line reaches a Columbus/Troy line by 11AM.
NEXT FEW DAYS: Sunday will be a very nice day. More scattered showers and storms will return to the state Sunday night and Monday. Expect upper 80’s by Tuesday. Anther storm system brings showers and storms by Wednesday.
BEACH FORECAST: . Scattered thunderstorms today. Possibly severe. Only a small chance of leftover showers Sunday. The Gulf water is still cool….72. HIGH Rip current risk through Sunday.
It’s been a mind boggling 24 hours of Severe Weather. Over 5 dozen tornado reports in 7 states. Close to 700 severe weather reports. At least 5 deaths. Dozens injured. Towns destroyed.
