SUNDAY Update: Series of Hot Days – Spotty Storms

Good morning!  This is the time of the year when my daily updates start to sound repetitive.  It’ll seem that way until September.  But, there are subtle changes each day. We are into that typical summer pattern early.  There will be isolated storms around today, but they will be few and far between. Don’t expect much day to day change this week.  I have the rain probability slightly higher on Tuesday and Thursday, but not much. Expect some hot days.  The humidity is a little higher, but not too crazy yet.  Arlene has dissipated.  The tropics are now quiet for the next 7 days.

CLIMATE DATA:  Yesterday’s morning low was a cool 67 at MGM.  Afternoon high was 92.  Normal hi/lo:  90 and 67.  No rain at the airport.

TODAY:  Mostly sunny. Hot again .  High 90-92.  Widely scattered, random showers & storms, especially afternoon & evening, fading out at night. East wind 5 to 10 mph.   Partly cloudy tonight.  Low 67.

Future Radar. Here’s three Hi-res model examples.  Notice they very quite a bit.  The HRRR and the NAM seem to be most plausible.  Widely scattered.  Few and far between.  Even though there won’t be many storms, some could be on the stronger side, due to cold air aloft.  The WRF model on the right seems way overdone on the number of storms.  We’ll see.

Parts of north and northeast Alabama could see some stronger storms today. Marginal Severe Risk.

.

NEXT FEW DAYS:    Not much day to day change.  Hot days.  Highs 90-92..  A little more humid.   Widely scattered to scattered, random pop-up showers and storms each day, mostly in the afternoon & evening hours.  Lows at night in the upper 60’s.

A “backdoor front” on Thursday may spike the number of afternoon & evening storms just a bit.

TROPICAL UPDATE:  Tropical Storm Arlene has dissipated.  The tropics are now quiet.  No tropical cyclones are expected in the next 7 days.

FULL STRAWBERRY MOON this morning. The bright star Antares will appear a few degrees to the right of the Moon. Sunrise today 5:38 AM, Sunset 7:48 PM. Moonrise tonight 7:44 PM. Moonset tomorrow morning.

Thanks for reading this Blog this morning! I’ll have another update for you in the morning.  Have a great weekend!
