SATURDAY Update:  Active, Stormy Pattern Soon

Good morning!  Yesterday was a much more tolerable day.  Today will be similar.  Then, this brief break ends.  In the summer months Dewpoint means everything.  Yesterday the dewpoints were in the tolerable 50’s.  So will today.

Expect a dramatic increase in the humidity and the rain chances on Sunday and Monday. This will be the start of a very active series of days through next week.  Some storms could be severe by Sunday night and Monday.

CLIMATE DATA:  Yesterday’s morning low was 67 at MGM.  Afternoon high was 90.  Normal hi/lo:  91 and 68.  No rain at the airport.

TODAY:  Sun/Cloud mix. Hot again, but fairly tolerable humidity.   High  near 92.    Spotty widely scattered storms.  East wind 5 to 10 mph.   Partly cloudy tonight.  Low 70.

Future Radar: Best chance of rain this afternoon will be along and south of US 80.

Rain chances increase later this evening, mainly west of I-65.

.

MULTI-DAY SEVERE WEATHER OUTBREAK:  Today a major outbreak of severe storms begins in the southern plains and ArkLaTex region. Enhanced Risk.  Although tornadoes can’t be ruled out, this will be mainly a damaging wind and large hail threat.  Sunday, the threat migrates to the Mid south and Tennessee Valley, including much of north of Alabama.

By Monday, much of Alabama is in a Marginal Severe Weather Risk.

NEXT FEW DAYS:  Expect a dramatic increase in the humidity and the rain chances on Sunday and Monday. This will be the start of a very active series of days through next week.  Some storms could be severe by Sunday night and Monday.

An approaching frontal system will be responsible for Sunday & Monday’s dramatic increase in the rain chance.

BEACH FORECAST:  Scattered thunderstorms each day.  Not a wash out, but have a plan B.   Highs in the 80’s.  Gulf water temperature is 83.  Moderate Rip Current Risk.
