FRIDAY Update:  More Strong Storms – Marginal Severe Risk – Brutal Weekend Heat

Good Morning!   Yesterday was brutal.  The high at MGM was 97 with a Heat Index of 107. Today we’ll likely be in the same general neighborhood.  Like yesterday, we’ll likely be dealing with another southward-moving cluster of strong/severe storms. .Showers and storms will be fairly numerous.   We are in a Marginal Severe Risk.  There were lots of warnings yesterday.  Today will likely be a repeat performance.  The first weekend of August will be steamy and potentially stormy in spots with triple digit heat indices.  Oh boy… Here’s my brief forecast discussion.

TODAY:  Limited sunshine.  Clouds and showers will hold the temperature down a bit.  High 91.  Heat Index near or over 100.  Scattered to numerous random showers & storms.  Some could be strong to severe with damaging wind gusts.  Locally heavy downpours. Low tonight 76

Multiple storm clusters are in the cards today.

SPC has a large chunk of the state in a severe Marginal. weather risk.  Damaging wind gusts are the main risk.

The Big Heat Dome is still in control.

NEXT FEW DAYS:    Dangerous Heat Indices Saturday, perhaps approaching the 105-110 range.  That will be the fuel for scattered strong storms.   Scattered random storms will be around each day.  Daily highs well into the 90’s.  Lows at night mid 70’s.

Here’s a sample of Heat Indices on Saturday afternoon.  Brutal, dangerous heat.

BEACH OUTLOOK:   Hot and humid with dangerous heat indices.  Highs near 90.  Scattered random storms each days. Moderate Rip Current Risk.

TROPICAL UPDATE:  The tropics are quiet for now.  We’re watching a series of tropical waves come off Africa.

The Euro and GFS continue to highlight a corridor of Tropical Activity from the coast of Africa to the Bahamas.

Thanks for reading this Blog this morning! This morning we are LIVE on the radio from 6 to 9 on NewsTalk 93.1.  Watch us on TV on CBS 8 and ABC 32.  I’ll have another update for you in the morning.  Have a nice day!
