WEDNESDAY Update:  Excessive Heat Warning – Dangerous Heat Indices – Still Dry

Good Morning!  The relentless heat continues.  An Excessive Heat Warning is in effect in central Alabama.  The heat index reached 110 yesterday, and we’ll be near that number today.  In fact, today’s record high of 100 from 2010 is very much in jeopardy.  We’ll be teasing record highs through Saturday.  And, still, with a massive of dome of upper level high pressure controlling our weather, we’ll continue to be dry/storm-free through at least Saturday.  Small rain chances return Sunday and Monday.  Next week will be as hot, as the upper high breaks down. Here’s my brief forecast discussion.

CLIMATE DATA:  Monday’s high at MGM was 99.  Morning low 77.  Highest Heat index 110.  No rain.  Normal hi/lo:  93/71.

TODAY :  Excessive Heat Warning.   Sunshine. Very Hot.  High 103. (Record high 100 in 2010)  Max Heat index to 110 again today.   Mostly clear tonight. Low 78.  Light wind.

The American Heartland continues to experience extreme heat.  Excessive Heat Warning.

All of Alabama is under various Heat Alerts.  Much of Central Alabama has an Excessive Heat Warning through 9PM. Heat Advisory tomorrow.

NEXT FEW DAYS:  Intense Heat. Heat Advisory Thursday. Close to or exceeding record highs today through Saturday.  Sunny days.  Lower 100’s Tuesday through Saturday. Heat index 106 to 112.  Still dry/storm-free at least through Saturday.  Small rain chance returns Sunday and Monday.

Potential RECORD HIGHS. We’ll be close to or exceeding records Today through Saturday.

Temperatures will be more reasonable next week.

TROPICAL UPDATE:  Tropical Storm Harold made landfall in South Texas yesterday.  Gert has dissipated.  Elsewhere, there’s still Franklin, Invest 92-L and an Area to Watch in the east Atlantic.

Franklin is the most interesting feature.  It could become a hurricane over the next few days.  There is still question marks about Franklin’s long-term future.    Much depends on the future of a trough crossing into the eastern US several days from now.

Thanks for reading this Blog this morning! This morning we are LIVE on the radio from 6 to 9 on NewsTalk 93.1.    I’ll have another update for you in the morning.  Have a nice day!
