WEDNESDAY Update:  The Desert Southeast

Good Morning!  Our extremely long string of storm-free dry days continues.  We desperately need rain, but it looks like our bone-dry pattern will continue for several more days.  Even the next front around Monday will probably come through Dry.  In the meantime, the same Upper Level High which is keeping us dry, is also promoting warm temperatures for late October.  That warmer than normal pattern will continue at least through Sunday.  Here’s my brief forecast discussion.

TODAY:   Mostly sunny. Comfortable.  High near 82.  East wind 5 to 10.    Partly cloudy tonight.  Low 61.

The Big Upper High is still in control.

NEXT FEW DAYS:   Expect a nice late October weather to continue. Comfortably warm.   The rain prospects through at least the upcoming weekend continues dismal.   That warmer than normal pattern will continue at least through Sunday.  We’ll be in the mid 80’s over the weekend, with lower 60’s at night.

Cooler behind that next front early next week. Here’s the 10 day model blend.

While parts of the Nation’s mid-section will see 3 to 5+ inches of rain through Sunday.  The “Desert Southeast” will remain dry as a bone, as our drought continues to expand.  The new Drought Monitor map comes out tomorrow.

TROPICAL UPDATE: Hurricane Tammy continues moving NE at 9 mph.  It should weaken into a Tropical Storm, and then slowly bend to the west.

The EURO Ensemble tracks on Tammy are a mess.

Disaster on the Mexican Pacific Coast. First landfalling Cat 5 hurricane in history.   Otis makes landfall:

…CATEGORY 5 HURRICANE OTIS MAKES LANDFALL NEAR ACAPULCO MEXICO…  Satellite imagery indicates that Otis has made landfall near Acapulco, Mexico around 125 AM CDT (0625 UTC). The maximum sustained winds are estimated to be 165 mph (270 km/h), and the minimum central pressure is estimated at 923 mb (27.26 inches).
