WEDNESDAY UPDATE: Big Changes Ahead – Cool Front Approaching

Good morning!  Our summer preview continues for now,  We’ll be flirting with a record high today. Random showers/storms will be few and far between today and today.  Showers and storms become likely  Thursday into early Friday. Some of the storms will be strong possibly severe. Much cooler air will follow. We’ll be in the 50’s Friday and Saturday night. Saturday’s high will be in the upper 70’s. Mother’s Day looks beautiful.  Here’s my brief forecast Discussion. 

TODAY:  Sun/cloud mix. HOT for May Highs near 92. (Record 93 from 2004) (Normal: 84/59)    Scattered random “hit or miss” storms.  Increasing clouds, becoming breezy tonight.  Low 73.

Future Radar.   Spotty random showers an storms. Here’s a late afternoon snapshot.

 Today’s severe weather risk will be across north Alabama.  Two sounds this morning an again by late tonight.

NEXT FEW DAYS:   Showers & storms become likely Thursday and Thursday night, into early Friday as a strong cool front approaches. Some of the storms will be strong possibly severe.  Much cooler air will follow.  Friday’s high 82.  50’s Friday and Saturday night.  Saturday’s high will be in the 70’s.  Looks like a pretty nice Mother’s Day weekend forecast.

Strong cold front approaching will spark some strong severe storms Thursday and Thursday night, through Friday morning. Round one of strong storms will be early Thursday, mostly across northeast Alabama. Round two Thursday night will include most of us.

Much of the state is in a level 2 Severe Risk, The MAIN Severe Risk will be Thursday night through Friday morning at 7AM.  Although the main threat is damaging winds, a tornado or two can’t be ruled out.

Here’s the 10 day temperature trend.  Much cooler by the weekend.  50’s Friday and Saturday night. 

Here’s the expected rainfall through Friday. We are behind. We need every drop we can get.

BEACH FORECAST:   Showers and storms will dominate the Friday forecast.  Possibly severe.  The rest of the Mother’s Day weekend forecast looks good.
