Good morning! The weekend weather news is very good.
Today’s high will be near 80. We’ll be in the cool 50’s again tonight. Mother’s Day looks beautiful. Risk of showers and storms returns Monday. Tuesday and Wednesday looks stormy. In fact, next week looks very wet and active indeed. We’ll have to watch for strong to severe storms Tuesday.

We’ll be on the WET side of an upper low Monday and Tuesday. We’ll have to watch for strong to severe storms Tuesday.

HISTORIC SHOW IN THE SKY: How RARE in the Northern Lights in Alabama? It’s been decades since we’ve seen the aurora borealis this far south. Absolutely positively spectacular and amazing!! A WOW Dear Diary moment. This due to a rare major geomagnetic solar storm. So rare.
NOAA has issued a rare Geomagnetic Storm Watch. The first one in 20 years. Two massive sunspots have merged. If you missed it, we could we see a repeat performance Saturday evening. Fingers crossed! This was what we saw in Central Alabama Friday night!

Where exactly is the aurora borealis (usually)?
The northern lights most commonly occur within the geographic area beneath the auroral oval. It encompasses latitudes between 60 and 75 degrees and takes in Iceland, northern parts of Sweden, Finland, Norway, Russia, Canada and Alaska as well as southern Greenland.
