UPDATED HOLIDAY WEEKEND UPDATE:  Heat, Humidly – A Few Strong Storms  

Good morning!  Memorial day weekend is the unofficial start of the summer.  And, our forecast is Text Book Summer – with heat, humidity, and scattered pop up random storms.  Some towns could get a strong storm.  Many towns will stay dry. We are in a Marginal Severe Risk, especially today and Monday.  Our weather app will keep you updated on where the storms are now, and it will show you Future Radar as well.  Remember — if you can here thunder you are close enough to be struck and killed by lightning.  

TODAY:  Expect a morning/mid-day storm cluster. Thunder, lightning/heavy downpours. Then, that moves out. Expect A sun/cloud mix.  Very warm. High near 90. (Heat index will be in the mid 90’s)  South wind 5 to 10 mph.  Random pop up storms will be scattered especially in the afternoon and evening.  See Future Radar below.  SPC has a Marginal Severe Risk for most of the state,   Overnight low 72.

FUTURE RADAR:  I want to show you two samples from 2 different high-res models.  It’s that familiar summer pattern where storms will be very random in nature.  Some towns get a storms, but many towns stay bone dry.   Here’s the NAM model at 1:00 PM.

Now the WRF model may be a little aggressive, perhaps, but here’s what it depicts late this afternoon.  Our weather app will keep you constantly updated on where the storms are and ALSO updated Future radar.

SEVERE WEATHER RISK:   Some storms could put on quite a show over the weekend.  Damaging wind gusts ae the main risk. Let’s look at the next three days.

Today and Monday will be similar.  Keep an eye on the radar on our Weather App.  There is a Marginal Severe Riks today and Monday.  Level 1 out of 5.  Remember — if you can here thunder you are close enough to be struck and killed by lightning. Now, I want to show you the Sunday Severe outlook.  If you are going to be traveling northward, Sunday could be a big tornado day in the Tennessee Valley and especially in the Ohio valley where there could be some “strong to violent long track tornadoes” according to SPC.

NEXT FEW DAYS:   Summer heat is locked in through Memorial Day Weekend.  Humidity is increasing, but so far, not out of control.  Actual highs will be in the lower 90’s each day. Over the Memorial Day holiday weekend, there will be a few widely scattered, random, “hit or miss” storms each day, The heat index will be nudging the triple digit boundary.  Mainly mid to upper 90’s through the weekend.

BEACH FORECAST:  Should be a pretty typical Memorial Day weekend.  Widely Scattered, random, “hit or miss”,  mainly afternoon and evening showers and storms will be prowling around. Gulf water temperature 80. Today & Sunday, a Moderate Risk from Destin eastward. Monday – moderate risk westward to the AL coast as well.
