MONDAY UPDATE: Drier, Warmer Days Ahead

Good morning from the NWA Weather Conference in Irving ,Texas!  That very disturbed pattern across the Southeast US which has brought us several days of tropical downpours, is starting to fade out. There will be widely scattered random storms today, but by tomorrow rain chances will be 20% or less.  We’ll be drying out.  Sunshine will dominate Wednesday through Saturday with hotter temperatures.

TODAY:  Our disturbed weather pattern is starting to calm down. Partial  sunshine today.  Random widely scattered mostly afternoon and evening storms, but not nearly as many as this weekend.  East wind 7 to 13, gusting to 20 mph.  High 83.  Low tonight 65

NEXT FEW DAYS:  Finally our forecast is starting to sound more routine.  On Tuesday, our rain chance will fall to 20% or less.  High in the mid to upper 80’s.  Then, Wednesday through Saturday, sunshine will dominate.  We will dry out.  And, it will become hotter. Highs will reach the upper 80s to near 90 Wednesday through Saturday.

Most of the state will dry out this week, as the best rain chance shifts towards the coast.

POTENTIAL TROPICAL CYCLONE 8:  It’s not officially a Tropical Storm right now, but PTC 8, 95 miles from Charleston, has 50 mph winds and is approaching the coast, slowly at 7 mph.  Although it is not quite Tropical at the moment, a Tropical  Storm Warnings continues on the Carolina coast.  If it acquires tropical characteristics, it will get the name Heline.

ELSEWHERE IN THE TROPICS:  NHC is tracking Tropical Depression Gordon, now curving to the NE in the Tropical Atlantic.

DOUBLE HURRICANE ANNIVERSARY:  September 16 is an amazing day in Alabama hurricane history. In 2004, Cat. 3 Ivan came ashore near Gulf Shores.  We all have Ivan stories.  A historic hurricane, establishing several Hurricane records in it’s amazing life.  But, that’s not all.  On September 16, 2020, Hurricane Sally made landfall, also near Gulf Shores at 5:45AM, after rapidly intensifying to Cat 2 status, causing substantial damage on the coast.
