Good morning! Radar is quite busy and colorful early this morning. Widespread, beneficial rain will drench the state today, hopefully putting a dent in the Drought. Most areas could see 1-2”+ here in central Alabama and even heavier months in South Alabama, There may also be a few thunderstorms. Part of the state is in a Marginal severe Risk. Rain will taper off tonight. Today’s rain is ahead of Cold Front #1, teamed up with moisture from the remnants of Sara. Cold front #2 arrives Wednesday afternoon, delivering the coldest air of the season so far on gusty northwest wind. We may not make it out of the 50’s Thursday and Friday. Many towns could see the first frost of the season by Saturday and Sunday morning. Here’s my brief video forecast discussion.
TODAY: Periods of rain and maybe some thunderstorms. Locally heavy rainfall. Windy. Southwest wind 10 to 15 gusting to 20+ mph. Scattered showers tonight will taper off and end by late tonight. Low 62.
FUTURE RADAR: Drenching rains this morning and through much of the afternoon. Rain will begin to taper off tonight and even by late tonight.
Also, much of the area is in a level one, Marginal severe weather risk. Damaging wind gusts is the main threat. The tornado risk is relatively low.
The second Cold Front will arrive Wednesday PM. It will deliver sharply colder air on gusty northwest wind..
NEXT FEW DAYS: A second reinforcing Cold Front will move through Wednesday afternoon. We may not make it out of the 50’s Thursday and Friday. Many towns could see the first frost of the season by Saturday and Sunday morning with lows in the mid 30’s. Highs over the weekend will be in the 60’s.
Many of us could see 1-3” of rain with this approaching front and upper trough. Very beneficial. South Alabama will see even heavier totals.
The 10 Day Model Blend Temperature Trend. After our Canadian Cool-down, we’ll be back in the 70’s Monday and Tuesday.
