THANKSGIVING  UPDATE: Arctic Invasion Ahead

Happy Thanksgiving!  Early this morning, we’ve been tracking a robust line of showers and storms moving southward through central Alabama, ahead of a strong Cold Front, which will usher in the first stage of some sharply colder air. Black Friday will be brisk & chilly with a high barely in the mid 50’s.  The wind will make it seem colder.  A second Cold Front brings even colder air Saturday night. The coldest mornings will be early next week.  Tuesday AM low will be 25 with a wind chill at or below 20. Temperatures will start to recover in the middle and later portion of next week.

TODAY:  Here in central Alabama, the biggest risk of showers and stronger storms will be this morning, especially early.  Leftover showers are possible through Noon.  Our high for the day, in the lower 70’s will occur in the pre-dawn hours.  Temperatures will fall to the 50’s by afternoon.  Gusty SW wind 10 to 18 gusting to 25, will shift to the NW following the Cold Frontal passage.  Mostly clear, breezy and much colder tonight.  Low 39.

MARGINAL SEVERE RISK begins to shift to mainly the southern half of the state after about 6AM.  Damaging wind gusts is the main risk. A brief tornado or two can’t be ruled out.  Our Weather App will keep you on top of the action with instant push notifications.

NEXT FEW DAYS:  An Arctic Plunge is on the way. Black Friday and Iron Bowl Saturday will be breezy and cold Black Friday will be brisk & chilly with a high barely in the mid 50’s.  The wind will make it seem colder.  A second Cold Front brings even colder air Saturday night. The coldest mornings will be early next week.  Tuesday AM low will be 25 with a wind chill at or below 20. 

The Second Cold front arrives Saturday night.

The Cold air will even invade Florida with lows in the 30’s even into the Orlando area by the start of next week.

The 10 Day Model Blend Temperature Trend.  Expect at least 5 nights of freezing temperatures during this arctic blast.  Temperatures will start to recover in the middle and later portion of next week.
