Good morning! It’s like Springtime in December. Monday’s high was 74°. We’ll be in the mid 70’s again today and Wednesday. Expect more dry weather today, with limited sunshine. There will be showers across north Alabama along a stalled front. Widely scattered showers return to our forecast tomorrow and Wednesday night as a cold front moves southward. There could even be a thunderstorm or two. Much cooler air will follow. The first stage of COOL will be on Thursday and Friday. But, the first weekend of Winter will be downright cold with sub-freezing nights and highs in the lower 50’s. A big change. Temperatures will recover Christmas Week. Here’s my brief video forecast discussion
TODAY: Patchy morning fog. Limited sunshine. I’ll say Partly Sunny. WARM again. High in the mid 70’s. East wind 6 to 12 mph. Cloudy tonight. Low 55.
Here’s the set-up This afternoon. The best chance of scattered showers and a few thunderstorms will be north of I-20 along a frontal system. The amazing warmth continues.
NEXT FEW DAYS: Get ready for some changes.
Expect the cold front to sweep through the state Wednesday and Wednesday evening. There could even be a thunderstorm or two. No severe weather is expected.
Not much rain is expected ibn the southern half of the state.
Winter BEGINS: The Winter solstices Saturday. The first weekend of Winter will be rather chilly, indeed.
Here’s the 10 day Temp trend. Very Mild to warm through Wednesday. Cooler late week. The Weekend will be downright COLD. A little milder Christmas day.
CHRISTMAS FORECAST?: It’s still a difficult forecast, because the models keep going back and forth.
For now, I’ll say: Partly to mostly cloudy. ( 20% chance of showers). AM low 44. PM high near 64. Low Christmas night 48.
Here’s the EURO and GFS snapshots at Noon Christmas. I tend to lean toward the Euro. The jury is still out.
